In 2002, Dr. Sidney Harman and Shakespeare Theatre Company Artistic Director Michael Kahn shared a vision: to create a thriving new performing arts center in the heart of the nation's capital.

In late 2007, the Harman Center for the Arts opened in Washington's downtown Penn Quarter and quickly took its place as a leading cultural destination in the nation's capital. Combining the existing Landsburgh theatre and the new Sidney Harman Hall, the Center provides dynamic performance space to Washington's many fine performing arts companies and supports expanded education programming that engages regional public school students with meaningful and long-term experiences in the arts. The new Center is expected to generate over $350 million in incremental economic activity in the District of Columbia during its first 10 years. “The visual and performing arts,” says Dr. Sidney Harman, “make life with all of its triumphs and disappointments clear, revealing and transforming.” Endeavor worked closely with Dr. Harman and the Board and Staff of the Shakespeare Theatre Company to bring this great new performing arts center to fruition.
